先洗手。置办供品如水果、净食、素点心、香花等。亦可备凉开水或者清茶一杯。
面对佛菩萨形象前，端正心念，默默祈请三世十方诸佛菩萨。心念戴罪之身供养朴素，惟愿诸佛菩萨不舍慈悲，享此诚供。
然后恭敬地用右手取香，左右手大拇指、食指合拢执香，顶戴（举到额前）。一支三支均可，一支代表三宝一体，三支代表佛法僧。
然后再焚燃。一支直接插入香炉，三支的时候先插香炉中间，次右，次左。不论一支三支，以恭敬心为主。并默诵：炉香乍热，法界蒙熏，诸佛海会悉遥闻，随处结祥云，诚意方殷，诸佛显全身。
然后三皈依礼：
皈依佛，当愿众生，体解大道，发无上意；
皈依法，当愿众生，深入经藏，智慧如海；
皈依僧，当愿众生，统理大众，一切无碍！
三礼毕长跪或者跏趺或者正跪，取佛经顶戴然后熏香三度（在香上顺时针旋绕）。（条件不具如外出办事时省略）
开经，颂开经偈：
无上甚深微妙法，百千万劫难遭遇，我今见闻得受持，愿解如来真实意！
恭敬打开经典，颂读。读经中若香燃尽，须再燃新香。颂读完毕，合经顶戴，熏香一度。
再如前三礼，结束。
How to Offering Incense

First, wash one’s hands. Prepare offerings such as fruit, clean food, maigre dim sum, flower etc. Cool boiled water or clean tea is available.
Facing the images of Buddhas or Bodhisattvas, cleanse one’s minds, pray Buddhas and Boddisattvas enjoy the sincere offerings and forgive its simplicity and my sin.
Fetch the incense with right hand, pinch the incense with thumbs and first fingers of both hands, and lift before one’s forehead. One or three incense are available. One symbolizes the Homoousion of Three Treasures, and three symbolizes Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.
Then ignite the incense. Stick in the censer directly if there is only one. If there are three, stick in the middle first, then the right and left. Among all things piety is the most important. And recite:
Incense in the censer now is burning,
All the Dharma Realm receives the fragrance.
From afar the sea-vast host of Buddhas,
All inhale its sweetness.
In every place auspicious clouds appearing
Our sincere intentions thus fulfilling
As all Buddhas show their perfect bodies
Then kowtow to three treasures thrice:
I devote myself to the Buddha, and wish all beings understand the Truth and make the supreme resolve;
I devote myself to the Dharma, and wish all beings absorb the sea-vast wisdom in the Tripitaka;
I devote myself to the Sangha, and wish all beings live in harmony without obstacles.
Then kneel down, hold the sutra and circle clockwise thrice above the incense. (When there are requisites.)
Recite the Verse for Opening a Sutra:
The unsurpassed, profound, and wonderful Dharma,
Is difficult to encounter in hundreds of millions of eons,
I now see and hear it, receive and uphold it,
And I vow to fathom the Tathagata’s true meaning.
Open the sutra with piety and start recital. If one burned out, another must be burned.
After the recital, close the sutra and lift it before one’s forehead. Hold the sutra and circle clockwise once above the incense.
Kowtow thrice as before.
